April 30, 2008 TO: Shop Stewards, Committeepersons, Members FROM: Jeff T. Goen, President/DBR SUBJ: DOBBINS RUNWAY CLOSING The scheduled closing of the Dobbins runway will be August 19 – September 19, 2008 for maintenance and repair. During this time, there will be some Flight Line classifications that will be affected due to no flight activity. The Company has informed the Union that it will make every effort to schedule upcoming field duty work during this period of time. UNION REPORT FROM THE PRESIDENT
DATE: October 29, 2007 TO: Local Lodge 709 Members FROM: Jeff T. Goen, President SUBJECT: Your “Negotiated” Benefits Recently you should have received via U. S. Mail, a package from the Company titled, “Your Benefits” giving a summary of your pay and benefits for average LM Aeronautics employees. Granted we can acknowledge that we have a decent job package however we must also acknowledge why we have it. The wages and benefits which we all enjoy are there because we, the working people, have negotiated them with the Company. Our forefathers stood firm and made many sacrifices in the past for the benefits we now enjoy, such as: Seniority, Pension Plan, Basic Benefit Plan, Company Matched Savings Plan (401K), General Wage Increases, Insurance Cost Sharing, 8 hour work day, overtime after 8 hours, double time after 12 hrs, 40 hour work weeks and the list goes on. This “total job package” should certainly improve as we labor for the company to insure that its profits “soar” like the F-22 raptor which we assemble. We should also take time to ponder about the upcoming contract negotiations that will take place beginning in January, and think about what the Company will want to reduce from the “total value” of your job. Will it be your pension? Your savings? Future employee benefits or your various other job benefits which it has brought to your attention in this summary? Earlier this week I received correspondence about the strike at Cape Canaveral, Florida where our Union brothers & sisters of Local Lodge 2061 have endured over one hundred thirty days on the picket lines to protect their current pension benefit and those same benefits for future employees. The company, United Space Alliance, which is a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, has set out to gain an economic advantage over other contractors that currently provide pensions by gutting the pension plans of USA employees. The CEO of USA, Dick Covey, has determined that they no longer need such plans as the company so gratefully provides a 401K “retirement opportunity” for all company employees alike. Our Collective Bargaining Agreement provides for a Pension Plan, a Basic Benefit Plan and a Savings Plan (401K). Any reduction of either plan for current employees or future employees would be a loss of benefits. At the same time, USA (a.k.a. Boeing/Lockheed Martin) is attempting to slash the benefits of our brothers and sisters at the Cape, both companies are posting record profits (Boeing 3rd qtr. Profits 61%/Lockheed Martin 3rd qtr. Profits 23%). Obviously as you can see your “Total Job Value” is in the crosshair of the company. If we allow the Company to restrict new hires from our existing benefits, at some point those “without” will outnumber those “with.” As we look toward the next contract negotiations we need to remember why we have these benefits and most importantly how we keep them. Fraternally, Jeff T. Goen President JTG:rrb
